Owing to a rough economy, my employer had to cut back, and I was one of the employees that had to go. With no immediate prospects, but plenty of bills to manage, I decided to sign up with an employment agency. That decision turned out to be the best thing I could've done. The agency found an assignment for me in a matter of days. When it was completed, they had another one waiting. That second assignment led to an offer of permanent employment. The economy of today's world is not friendly to those that do not have a specialization. In fact, the job market is tough for everyone in the country. There are certain things that a person can do to be much more competitive in the job market. If you learn skills that are marketable, you will have an edge when turning in applications. One such skill that is extremely marketable is that of driving. In order to be considered a skilled driver, one must first obtain a commercial driver's license, or CDL. This article will speak of three different jobs that are generally hiring, and require a CDL.

Water Truck Driver

In the oil and gas industry there are many jobs that require a CDL. One such job is that of a water truck driver. As you might expect, water truck drivers haul water to locations away from the oil pad. This is important, because in order to hydraulically fracture a formation, oil companies require water. However, when they are finished fracturing a formation, that water is then discarded, and a water truck driver is able to then take it to a treatment facility. You would be hauling the water in a semi, in perhaps difficult road and weather conditions. 

Hot Shot Driver

When drilling a well, oil companies will sometimes need emergency or other essential equipment to be rushed to the location. This is when a hot shot driver is able to rush the equipment out to the work location. Unlike a water truck driver, a hot shot diver uses a one ton pickup and trailer to haul equipment. Once again, the roads and the weather vary widely and can get extremely difficult to navigate. This is why being a trained driver is a skill that is essential, and gives you a skill that is much needed. 

Fuel Tanker

In every city and state there is a constant need for petroleum. In order to deliver fuel to these different cities and states a fuel tanker is needed. A fuel tanker is a semi that hauls petroleum products. This is a very important job, and requires a very skilled driver. Only an individual with a CDL is allowed to be a fuel tanker.
